Nicki is more than just a rapper
Although the music industry needed to fill a void when it came to representation for female rappers, Nicki Minaj is not exactly wanting to be considered "just" a rapper, she is trying to reach a wider audience with her music. Some in the hip hop community do not feel she is a good representation of the history of rap.

Why? mainly because Nicki's style is too commercial. Her last two albums Pink Friday and Roman Reloaded had mostly dance and pop songs on them, which received much criticism from those who felt she should of had more hard core lyrics.

Nicki's music and style can not be defined
It is clear that Nicki does not want to be defined or stereotyped into a specific music genre, she is experimenting with all types of sounds, beats and music. As can be seen in her colorful and fun music videos. Interestingly enough Nicki Minaj's fan base are really young starting at 5 yrs old and upwards. This could explain Nicki's choice of colorful hairstyles, bright girly outfits and animated facial expressions.

Can Nicki redeem herself with the Re-Up album?
At the same time I can see that the songstress wants to contribute to the hip hop era with her latest album: Roman Reloaded the Re-up which is featuring many of the well known rappers in the industry. It may not be enough to convince the critics of the rap world that she is authentic but at least she is trying.

Can there be room for more than one female rapper at the top?
It really depends on who you ask, because right now everyone is talking about Nicki Minaj and how she stole her look from Lil Kim. The industry is changing and it is all due to the Nicki Effect.

In a recent article on HuffingtonPost DJ Louie XIV discusses about the loss of female rappers in Where My Ladies At? The Mystery of the Missing Female OGs. Female rappers are making a comeback and new ones are hitting the horizon with a vengeance. Investment companies are throwing money at these young artist causing a resurgence of women who rap.

Word on the street suggests that the low record sales of Nicki Minaj's new re-release album: Pink Friday Roman Reloaded - The ReUp is not doing well. Apparently one of the hosts of New York's popular radio station "Hot 97" had criticism to say about Nicki's style of music which now a days consists of mostly dance and pop music.

The artist is currently overseas on tour and has decided she does not want the station to play her songs anymore, Is Nicki over-reacting? Could her low sales numbers be contributed to the fact that Walmart and Target did not carry her re-release album?

I don't think that Nicki's career is ruined at all, she is growing in popularity and with the high profile American Idol judge gig the popstar is only going to become more of a big superstar. As far as her album sales, most of her barbs could not get a copy of the CD/DVD compilation of music due to not having access to the usual places to buy the records.

This is just a blip and something the hip hop artist will get through just fine, I am sad to hear about her low record sales and hopefully everything will straighten itself out soon.

Nicki Minaj gave a shout out to her wig designer at the recent 40th Annual American Music Awards 2012 where the popstar won "Favorite Rap/ Hip Hop Artist" award for the 2nd time.
